    Frequently asked Questions

What age can children take lessons?
We take children from the age of 4.

How many children to a class?
There is a maximum of eight per class, In the level 1 stage there is also an assistant in the water.

What do I need to bring for my childs Lesson?
For girls an all in one costume, boys trunks (not shorts) and towel

Can my child wear goggles?
Unless for medical reasons, we prefer the children don't use goggles in Levels 1 & 2.  They often find them uncomfortable at this age and have been known to ping them back on their faces.  Initially learning to swim is for safety and they probably wouldn't have their goggles if they were to fall into water out of a controlled environment.

My child hates water on his/her face do they have to do this?
It is not possible to swim strongly and efficiently on the front without the face in the water.  This is a skill that a high majority of children find difficult but there are methods of teaching (through constructive play) in working towards this.

Do I have to get in the water with them?
No - these are structured lessons as in a class room.

Can I watch the Lessons taking place?
Yes - we have a viewing gallery from where you can view the whole length of the pool however the only persons allowed on poolside is staff due to health & safety. You will have a member of staff available at every lesson who will go on poolside on your behalf if and when necessary.

What days to you do lessons?
We are currenly taking lessons on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings.

Do you do lessons through the school holidays?
We have tried opening during school holidays but were unable to be consistant with lessons due to pupils being absent at different times.  Lots of play whilst on holiday or at the local pool will keep up their new skills and and maybe a few more will be learnt.

Can I get a refund for the lessons that my child does not attend?
The hire time and staff requirement is calculated by the pupil intake on a termly basis - by payment of the term your child has a specific placement for the term which could not be filled on an add hoc basis.

Can I pay weekly?
The school premises are hired and have to be paid on a termly basis. Classes are adjusted by pupil capacity and costed as such - we do require a commitment by payment of term bookings at a time

When are the fees due for next term?
To guarantee your childs place for the oncoming term, fees are due during the last three weeks of the previous term.  You will be provided with these dates via a newsletter.

How can I pay the fees?
The fees can be paid by cheque or cash.  We do not have a credit card facility at this moment in time.
  • Initially please contact us via the attached contact page or telephone regarding availability.  On being offered a placement a booking form will be forwarded to you.
  • The placement will be held for seven days waiting receipt by us of your booking form & cheque/money.
  • On receipt of the booking form a numbered receipt will be sent on return giving confirmation of placement.

What are swim belts?
Swim belts have blocks of small floats which are placed around the waist.  They are teaching aids which enhance the correct posture on the water for flotation and from this stage correct swim technique is taught.  They in no way work as armbands or rings etc.

Do you use armbands?
No - out method of teaching is with swim belts
