           Our Teaching Method

Our teachers like to bring constructive play into childrens swimming lessons with enjoyment in each lesson/level to acheive effective strong swimming strokes together with underpinning water awareness skills.

From level 1 your child will have a little help in learning body position on the water by wearing a Swim Belt.  These go round the middle of the torso, allowing full use of arms and legs which will enable  the child to learn buoyancy, and how to travel through the water.  Swim belts are not flotation aids as in arm bands or rings and can only be used under supervision in teaching.

The initial basic skills above are then built upon (using swim belt) to enable your child to become more independent around the pool - shallow or deep, putting face in the water, blowing bubbles,  eyes open searching for objects on the bottom and jumping in/return back to the side with confidence.

Once the above skills have been established,  we progress onto the swim stroke techniques but still adding in additional skills as in treading water, sculling, star/mushroom floats etc. during the last few minutes of each lesson. The swim belts are starting to be removed now as your child becomes more confident.

Your child will have achieved basic water skills / basic stroke technique on achievement of level  4 without swim belt and will be swimming widths confidently on the front and back in the middle of the pool.

At Level 5 we start to build firstly more on technique and then stamina / strength with additional water skills such as roly-poly’s, picking up the brick etc. still being built on throug the levels
